AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – The Amarillo Environmental Health Department is warning consumers after several thousand pounds of rejected Cacique products were sold in Hereford on Sept. 5.
According to the Amarillo Environmental Health Department, Texas DSHS Retail Food Safety Operations received a report that a truckload of Cacique meat and cheese products were rejected by the purchaser due to temperature abuse.
The DSHS report says after the load was rejected, several thousand pounds of Cacique cheese and meat products from the same load were sold to consumers in Hereford.
The product was detained by DSHS Food and Drug investigators and returned to Amarillo, but thousands of pounds of product were unaccounted for.
The Amarillo Environmental Health Department says that it is their understanding that prior to the detention of the product, a substantial amount was sold directly to customers in Hereford or purchased by local business owners for use in food establishments.
If you have any of the Cacique products listed in the above image, the Amarillo Environmental Health Department asks that you do not consume the product and contact the Amarillo Area Public Health District at 806-378-9472.
Cacique also released a statement regarding the missing products:
The company stated they are working with officials to investigate the incident.
Cacique also said that anyone who purchased the items from the unauthorized sellers in Hereford should “destroy the product immediately.”
