The Department of Environmental and Public Health in the College of Health Sciences (CoHS) at Abu Dhabi University (ADU) invites applicants for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher in the Environmental Health & Safety program, beginning August 2024. The Department is seeking highly qualified and motivated full-time faculty members who are committed to teaching, research, new programs development, students mentoring, and institutional and community service. Candidates working in the different areas of Environmental Health & Safety are welcome to apply. We seek applicants with expertise in the following EHS fields:

Description of the Position

The position is opened for the Fall 2023-2024 semester. Applicants must possess excellent communication skills and be able to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. There are a variety of Environmental Health and Safety topics with potential teaching opportunities. The teaching load typically includes up to 12 credit hours per academic semester in Abu Dhabi and Al-Ain campuses, which may vary depending on involvement in other academic activities.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Teach undergraduate courses in related-field of specialization in the Environmental Health and Safety program catering to a diverse student body comprised of a variety of ages, cultural backgrounds, ethnicities and academic preparation
  • Mentor students in academic development and achievement; in applied practical experience, and in integral learning experience
  • Supervise graduating students’ projects and provide guidance
  • Contribute to the curriculum development, program assessment, program accreditation, development of new programs, community engagement and involvement with professional societies through services
  • Maintain a record of scholarship through independent and/or collaborative research, extramural funding and publication
  • other duties considering departmental needs and priorities

Knowledge, skills, abilities:

  • Must be able to deliver high quality instruction in a student-centered environment to cultivate an inclusive learning environment that support students with various learning styles and diverse backgrounds
  • Be able to use the Blackboard learning management system (preferred), Microsoft Teams, and instructional technology.

Qualifications

To be considered, the required qualifications include:

  • Doctoral degree from an internationally accredited university in Environmental Health and Safety
  • Must have at least 3 years prior teaching experience in Environmental Health and Safety (undergraduate and postgraduate level)
  • Must possess experience in advising and mentoring senior undergraduate students.
  • Must be able to articulate research agenda and demonstrate expertise in advance analytical methods in research areas of Environmental Health and Safety
  • Possessing interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills in English is a must.
  • Possess research potential and accomplishment demonstrated by a record of peer-reviewed publications, as judged by their h-index (10 for Assistant Professor, 15 for Associate Professor, and 25 for Professor)
  • and a record of research grants acquisition.

Preferred Qualifications include:

  • with qualifications to teach in more than one area or program will be given priority
  • to attract grant funding
