
The County of San Diego has ordered Cocina Tex Mex on Lake Wohlford Road to close due to being out of compliance and major violations. A facility can be ordered closed during an inspection as a result of a major violation, lack of a valid health permit, or other immediate risk to public health. This inspection does not result in a score or grade for the food facility. On Wednesday, August 27, 2025, Cocina Tex Mex locked their doors and placed “Closed until further notice” handwritten signs on multiple windows around the restaurant. An observant resident shared with the Roadrunner the reason of the closure in the Valley Voice Facebook Group.
During a routine inspection, six violations were discovered by the County of San Diego Department of Environmental Health.
Violations include:
- Holding Temperature (Major Violation)
- Examples of major violations include multiple potentially hazardous foods (two or more food items in separate containers), or pooled eggs held at temperatures between 50°F and 130°F without any other intervention
- Vermin (Major Violation)
- Examples of major violations include the presence of active infestation by rodents or vectors that are disease carriers that would likely result in the contamination of food contact surfaces or adulteration of foods and will warrant an immediate closure.
- Nonfood Contact Surfaces Clean (Out of Compliance)
- Examples violating good retail practices include dirty shelving storing dishware or grease accumulation on the sides of a deep fryer.
- Equipment and Utensil Storage, Use (Out of Compliance)
- Examples violating good retail practices include plastic shopping bags used to store raw chicken, cardboard used to line shelves or food cans reused to store food/equipment.
- Ventilation and Lighting (Out of Compliance)
- Examples violating good retail practices include mechanical exhaust ventilation equipment not being provided over all cooking equipment or light bulbs which are not shielded, coated, or otherwise shatter-resistant in areas where open food or food equipment are stored.
- Floors, Walls and Ceilings (Out of Compliance)
- Examples violating good retail practices include broken floor tiles, a damaged wall behind a sink or a wall in the food preparation area with accumulated dried food debris.

The Roadrunner has reached out to the restaurant for comment but no response. It is unsure when the restaurant will reopen.
The restaurants prior inspection November 2024 found no violations.
