County of Monterey launches an environmental dashboard for the Moss Landing Vistra fire

BUT THERE IS LITTLE THE COUNTY CAN DO TO STOP IT.. PGE LEADERS MAKING THEIR FIRST PUBLIC APPEARANCE SINCE THEIR SURPRISE ANNOUNCEMENT LESS THAN TWO WEEKS AGO THAT THEY PLAN TO POWER UP THEIR BATTERY ENERGY STORAGE FACILITY NEAR THE SITE OF THE VISTRA PLANT THAT WENT UP IN FLAMES EARLIER THIS YEAR.. PUSH BACK AT TUESDAY’S BOARD OF SUPERVISORS MEETING.. T-2 SUPERVISORS ALSO RAISING CONCERNS.. THEY HAD HOPED PGE WOULD NOT RESTART THEIR TESLA BATTERIES UNTIL AFTER THE CAUSE OF THE VISTRA FIRE HAD BEEN DETERMINED AND A MORE ROBUST FIRE ACTION PLAN HAD BEEN DEVELOPED.. T-3 TUESDAY PGE LEADERS REITERATED THEIR PLANS TO GO BACK ON-LINE WITH THEIR MOSS LANDING FACILITY JUNE 1ST.. AND COUNTY LEADERS CAN DO LITTLE TO STOP IT.. ONLY THE PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION CAN INTERVENE.. AND PGE SAYS PUTTING THE ENERGY FACILITY BACK ON LINE WILL HELP PREVENT ROLLING BLACKOUTS THIS SUMMER.. AND THEY SAY IT’S SAFE TO POWER BACK UP. TODAY SUPERVISOR GLENN CHURCH MADE A MOTION TODAY.. THAT A TOXICOLOGIST LOOK AT THE MULTIPLE DATA THATS BEEN COLLECTED.. AND GIVE A DETAILED REPORT ON THAT AT THE NEXT PUBLIC HEARING REGARDING THE FIRE.. ALSO TODAY THE COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT LAUNCHED A NEW ON-LINE DASHBOARD THAT DETAILS WHERE ENVIRONMENTAL TESTING HAS TAKEN PLACE.. AND THE RESULTS OF THAT TESTING.. A new data dashboard is now online and available to people to track where environmental testing and monitoring have been done across Monterey, Santa Cruz, and San Benito counties.The testing is in response to the Vistra battery fire in Moss Landing from January.This new interactive dashboard allows users to find the results of water, soil testing and screening results collected throughout the area.Due to the large volume of air monitoring data, the dashboard is being updated in phases.County staff collaborated with toxicologists and other experts at the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment and the California Department of Public Health.The dashboard can filter for test results that are at or above these health-related criteria or simply show when a detection occurred.
